Creating New Knowledge

Many with in the CMU community are not aware of the scientific research that is occurring in their own town and the impact it could have on the world. A cure for hydrocephalus, a vaccine for cancer, specified mitochondria research and much more are all being studied here on CMU’s campus. A short walk across campus can reveal potentially life-changing research right in our own back yard. The coolest part? CMU undergraduates are getting the chance to be a part of it.

Niki Devito, a Central Michigan University Student in her third year of a Biology undergraduate degree, talks about her experience working in a Research lab in the CMU campus. At 20 years old, Devito works on finding a cure to hydrocephalus in Dr. Janet Miller research lab in the Health Professions building. As a biology major, her schedule has almost no down time between studying, class, labs and her involvement in the Miller lab. After a summer of volunteering in the lab, she now has a paying job doing research in the lab.
